Archives and Special Collections
The primary mission of Archives and Special Collections at Ouachita Baptist University is to preserve records, documents, and select artifacts that chronicle the history of the school from its founding in 1886 to the present. Additionally, the department works with the Arkansas Baptist State Convention and the Clark County Historical Association to preserve and provide access to historical materials from these organizations. As a result, Special Collections has rich holdings on Arkansas Baptist history, and the history of Clark County and the surrounding region.
Special Collections also holds the papers of several former Arkansas politicians of national significance, including Senator John L. McClellan, Governor Mike Huckabee, and Congressmen Mike Ross and Jay Dickey.
The Archives acquires records, manuscripts, secondary source material, artifacts,
and media by transfer, donation, bequest, purchase, and salvage. University offices
wishing to transfer records or individuals interested in donating materials may contact
the Archivist, Dr. Lisa Speer, at 870-245-5332 or by email. Archives staff is unable to provide appraisals.
Researchers planning to visit Archives and Special Collections are encouraged to call or email in advance of their
visit to confirm the department's hours and availability of materials. Researchers
are also advised to familiarize themselves with the department's access and use policies.
