Ouachita Baptist University will host guest artist Sarah Schouten on horn and piano Tuesday, Sept. 21, in McBeth Recital Hall at 7:30 p.m. on Ouachita’s campus.
Schouten, an internationally acclaimed musician, will perform a variety of pieces on horn and piano. She currently works as a freelance artist and teacher while completing her doctorate at Florida State University.
Schouten has performed with the Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra and the Northwest Florida Symphony Orchestra. She also maintains a private studio in Tallahassee, Fla.
Assisting her during the night’s performance will be Ouachita faculty members Ryan Lewis, assistant professor of music, on percussion and Heather Thayer, adjunct instructor of music, on the French horn. Lewis said he met Schouten last summer while performing in the Rome Festival Orchestra in Italy.
Schouten is a member of TetrCor, a horn quartet that performs recitals, master classes and clinics for colleges and high schools to promote chamber music among young musicians. She is an accomplished artist with several awards, including being inducted into the Honor Society of Pi Kappa Lambda, winner of the Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp, Camp Bernstein’s staff concerto competition as well as being awarded the sword of honor from the University of Dayton’s chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota.
The recital is free of charge and open to the public. For more information, contact Ryan Lewis at email@example.com or 870-245-5421.
